The New Year, for me, tends to be a time for reflection. Therefore I start the year with a bit of a personal Newsletter.

First of all, I hope that the New Year will be a great one for you all! May it bring you everything you hope and dream for.
In my last Newsletter I told you a bit about my plans for this year. Another resolution, if I should call it that, is that I’m going to try being a better person. This is something I’ve been working on for a while now and probably something I will be working on for the rest of my life. Throughout life and from experience, we learn. I hope to keep on learning (though it would be nice if these lessons would not all be amazingly hard, as some tend to be).
One of the things I want to change about myself is to be more giving. I know I can be greedy at times – for attention, pats on the back, many a thing including materialistic matters. I do love to give things to others but I have my moments of really wanting something and of jealousy and envy. I don’t like that about myself.
I’m not saying it is bad to want things or to express a need. But what do we really need in life? A roof over our heads, food and drink, our health, love, kindness – all these we need for our survival, physically and emotionally. An MP3 player, another merit badge, an awardicon, the very best upgrade on Writing.Com, designer clothes – these things are nice but not a need.
When we work hard it does a person well to feel appreciated. It is good to hear one is liked and respected, a bit of genuine praise and a compliment or two go a long way. But how much value do compliments have when they are expected, even demanded all the time?
In life, and around our site, I see people who give all the time, without expecting anything in return. I see people working hard to aid others because of the kindness of their hearts. It humbles me.
I know that I could be more giving, do more for others, and not for that pat on the back or to hear how good I am. I’d like to be a better friend to my friends, a better daughter, sister and grandchild to my family, reach out to the people around me, give something back because I receive so much.
One thing I have learned, though, is to know when I need time for myself. I need time to just withdraw from the world around me and look after myself. So this year I hope to find that balance. God-willing, I will succeed.

This month I have chosen some wonderful examples of the kindness and care within the Writing.Com community. There are many more, I know, but I have only so much space! I hope you will enjoy them. They are certainly worth a peek.

I always welcome your feedback and suggestions, so please do not hesitate to drop me a line .
scarlett_o_h - Very good Newsletter; I enjoyed reading it and can empathise with you resolutions and the joys of keeping a journal. I too have made many friends here this year simply through 'blogging.' One of my friends and I think there should now be a weekly Newsletter for 'bloggers' as it has become such a big part of many member's lives. What do you think?
Thank you so much for your feedback! I am glad you enjoyed the Newsletter. And that is a wonderful idea . I'm sure many people would enjoy it. You could post the suggestion in "Suggestion Box" [ASR], perhaps, along with a few ideas about topics for Editorials. Who knows, it is worth a try!
