If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm a guest editor for this particular newsletter but I enjoy learning about new things, new experiences, new ways to improve myself. Question is, do I believe in myself? On occasion. I trust myself more. My instinct, my perception of things, that inner voice we all have yet tend to ignore at times. Those are my daily companions and through life and time, I've learned to not only trust them but to rely on them.
Still, that one question remains.
We cannot always believe in ourselves. The one thing that's really important to us all and yet we fail at it. We can do many things but deep down we still question our abilities. Our own writing being the first thing on our list. How many hours, days, months do we agonize over whether or not our writing is good enough to be read? To be considered for publishing? We question ourselves if we aren't just wasting time and precious minutes slaving over a written piece that no one would care about. Those doubts are real and dreadful.
My opinion is that, we do need to believe in ourselves, in our written word, in anything we do with pride, anything we consider important. That belief matters. It doesn't mean that we don't stray away from that thought or losing faith in our own abilities. Many time we need others to believe in us before we can do that ourselves. It can be hard because it feels like a lonely road to nowhere. Others can help. It does feel good to have someone tell you that they believe in you. A simple sentence with a lot of meaning. It can get us onto the right path, getting us to believe in ourselves once again.
Even so, it's not the same. It's not like looking in the mirror and looking at that smiling face, knowing that you've accomplished something, no matter how big or small, without worrying about anyone else's opinion. Now, that is an achievement! That really matters to you even if you don't know it.
When you do stray away from that path, don't despair. Ask for guidance. Ask those close to you, those you trust the most, to tell you what they think. Those who support you also believe in you, even at times when you don't believe in yourself.
'Til next time!
