“Your flaws are perfect for the heart that’s meant to love you.” – Trent Shelton, Football Player.

Well, January just blew by! I remember writing about that New Year's Eve Kiss and then bam! Now here I am. Work kept me busy all month as well as several scouting events. Can you believe Girl Scout Cookies are here?

I visited the doctor because my cholesterol is high (at this point I think family genetics are in play) and I came back with high blood pressure. When I've got to the doctor in the past 6 months for my little ills and coughs, it's been coming back high, soo… the weigh has to come off. I've lost 2 pounds in 2 weeks. So because the heart is important and hearts are a symbol of romantic love, I'd thought mention it's American Heart Month. Let's take care of our hearts.

Of course Valentine's Day is right around the corner and it's Creative Romance month. It's a month dedicated to being a little creative in your romance, so let's hear your ideas! I'll also be sharing some Valentine's history and trivia.

Does anyone watch Blindspot? I always wanted to watch the show, and yesterday I had a little time to check it out "On Demand." I caught Episode 1 of Season 3. I wish I could have seen the first two seasons. I'll try to find it on Netflix. It had a romantic twist so I thought I'd share my thoughts.

Letter from the editor

GIRL SCOUT COOKIES: Did you know that the girl scouts started baking cookies in 1917 as a way to raise funds. Nowadays girl scout cookies are BIG business. Two major companies bake the cookies. Yearly favorites include thin mints, samoas, and lemonades. From my research boxes are 5,00 and S'mores boxes are 6.00. Who doesn't LOVE girl scout cookies? I like mint cookies so I usually buy thin mints. I also like the lemonades with the lemon spread on the bottom.

What do you LOVE about Girl Scout Cookies?

AMERICAN HEART MONTH: February is Heart month. The first AMH was in Feb 1964, and at time, more than ½ of deaths in America was because of heart disease. So how can you take care of your heart? Exercise is important. It's recommended 20 mins of exercise a day helps. Drink water! Recommended is 6-8 eight ounces a day. Also, eat healthy. I like the paleo diet, but have to meal plan to do really well on it. Cut down on salt. Who doesn't like salt? Sigh… There are substitutes like Mrs. Dash that I've grown accustomed to. Be positive.Attitude is everything.

What else can you do to take care of your heart?

CREATIVE ROMANCE MONTH: How can you get creative with your romance? Flowers? Dinner date? Chocolate? Candles? A spontaneous travel date? Remember the little things. I think this goes a long way in keeping romance alive in your relationship. Remember romance is about making your significant other feel valued and appreciated. Even a text with a heart is appreciated by your loved one.

What have you done to be creative in your romance?

VALENTINE'S DAY: Did you know? The Italian city of Verona receives about 1,000 letters addressed to Juliet every Valentine's Day. How the holiday got it's name: Valentine preached Christianity in 270 AD and often performed Christian marriages in prison. He befriended the jailor's daughter, Julia. Before he was executed, he wrote a letter to her and signed it "From your Valentine." That's how the holiday got it's name.

Not everyone can say Valentine's Day is about romance. Some find Valentine's Day nerve wrecking. --Check out "Cheese Puffs" in the Editor's Picks. *Smile*

What do you do to celebrate (or avoid) the holiday?

BLINDSPOT: Jane has tattoos all over her body, but she suffers from amnesia and doesn't understand how they got there. In season 3, Jane is married to Weller, and living a happy live until she discovers there's a bounty on her head. I watched the first episode of season 3 the last night. It was fast paced and full of action. I thought the characters were likeable, but is there room for romance? Jane and Weller are married, but what's married life going to be like for them? Of course I haven't watched anymore episodes, but can romance survive in this mystery charge, action filled story? Do you need a little a bit of everything -- action, romance, mystery, fantasy to make a really good story? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Here's some feedback from my Newsletter DTD: 3 JAN 2018:

I've never watched the whole Christmas Story movie. I know its a classic but it just doesn't interest me. I've heard and seen enough of the clips to have watched most of it.
There are so many New Year's movie's based on a Kiss or meeting somewhere at the stroke of Midnight. So much possibility.

I agree, there's A LOT of possibility! Yeah, I've been enough clips of the Christmas Movie to make me feel I've watched most of it.

Great description of Gothic Romance! Great summation which I'll be sharing.

I'm polishing Encore, my novel of that genre as well as working on a book about writing Gothic, so I've read everything I can find on it. I would say the style also traditionally involves the clash of the past with the present beyond just decay, related to the political realities behind the castles, monasteries, and mansions.
