Excerpt: The Prep is a month-long, community-oriented challenge that takes place every October, designed to help you plan a novel prior to writing it. The Prep was created to coincide with NaNoWriMo, but it can be used to prep any novel project. You don't even have to have a novel idea to participate! Your first assignment, on Oct. 1st, is to come up with an idea, and we provide you with brainstorming tools, plot generators, and a whole community of other novelists to help you along.
Excerpt: This forum is meant to be a tool to give depth to your stories wherever you need it. For example, if your story is about a fictional society, I, or someone else, would ask questions like: "What kind of currency does this society use?" or "How is this society governed or ruled?"
Excerpt: The task is simple: Write a short story using the prompt above as inspiration!
Excerpt: The winner gets 500 gps. If the contest runs into two weeks or more, I will gift 1000 gps to the winner(s)
Excerpt: Write new Free Verse based on weekly photo prompt, 7-40 lines.

Excerpt: The challenge: write a poem with exactly 24 syllables! The poem can be broken up any way you like ~ 6/6/6/6, 4/8/4/8, 8/8/8, etc. any combination you come up with, but must be 24 syllables. This will be a daily prompt based contest.
Excerpt: September 30 – October 6 prompt: Okay, my birthday occurs during this round, so your prompt is to take a picture of something birthday-themed!
Did you know this group helps members by gifting or extending their upgraded membership when times are hard?
Excerpt: Welcome to the 10th Annual NaNoWriMo Write-A-Thon, the activity where you can compete in NaNoWriMo and raise GPs for some great Writing.com causes at the same time! This event is my way of showing appreciation to all the wonderful groups and activities on this site that encourage members of this site to read, write, and participate in the community. I hope you'll all join me in showing your support by participating as either a writer or a sponsor (or both)!
The concept is pretty straightforward. Much like a typical walk-a-thon where participants are supported by sponsors who have committed to donate a certain amount of financial support for each mile walked, this activity has Sponsors who commit to donating a certain number of GPs for each word written by their sponsored Writers!

This month's question: How will you use the countdown timer? Send in your answer below! Editors love feedback!
Last month's question: What do you see as a common problem with contest entries?
Jeff responded: The biggest problem I see with contest entries is not following all of the rules. As a contest organizer it's a shame to have to disqualify otherwise perfectly fine entries because of one little oversight... but the rules are the rules. When submitting an entry, authors should always double check to make sure all rules are being adhered to.
🎼 RRodgersWrites 🎶 sent: This month's question: What do you see as a common problem with contest entries?
= the timing
I have recently begun entering the contests' due dates in my phone and putting alerts for about the last four days. The bulk of the contests run tom the beginning of the month to the last day of the month. Consequently, I have a huge, growing list due 9/30. I appreciate the ones due on the 14th, 15th, 18th, 28th, etc. If more contests varied the due date or the contest's cycle, then they might get more entries and higher quality entries. I'm not sure I'll be able to create submissions for all of the contests due on the last day of the month, and the more I do, the lower I think the quality might be. This issue of the deadlines was the first issue that came to mind when I saw your prompt/question.
