Gift Points: They're Easy to Come By
Does it seem like Gift Points, our virtual currency on WdC, are elusive? Here are some tips for how to earn some.
Gift Points are the way that we buy and sell things on Writing.Com. You can buy signatures with them, raffle tickets, and you win them when you get first place in a contest. You can even purchase merit badges with them, things in the WdC shop, and subscriptions. So, it's safe to say that Gift Points (or GPs for short) are highly important for interacting on the website. They are the bitcoin of Writing.Com - our currency of choice.
So, if you don't have them, it's hard to interact.
But, how can you earn some without plopping down a load of cash? There are ways, believe it or not.
Now, I'm not going to give you a get-rich-quick scheme. But, I am going to give you a few hints for gaining some GPs in ways you may not have realized in the past.
1. Log In Every Day
That's right! Every day that you log in to WdC, you earn some free GPs! Now, I'm not saying this will make you rich, but the more you stay away, the more you can't get these free GPs just for stopping in and seeing what's going on with the site. It's a great incentive to come on by.
2. Scrollie Games
If you've not checked out the Scroll Chat, it's a lovely little feature where members of WdC can chat with one another to say hello. Well, in this chat, there are bots that put up random games. The first 3 scrollies to answer the games correctly get free GPs. So, you have to be quick! But, it is lots of fun. The games involve simple addition and subtraction, or alphabetizing, or sometimes even just clicking boxes until you find the right one.
Sometimes, other generous scrollies will even put a game out there with their own GPs and let other people play to win.
So, not only can you procrastinate from your writing by chatting with some wonderful people, you can earn some great GP rewards!
3. Reviewing
Giving people feedback is one of the best parts of Writing.Com, in my opinion. Giving people valuable feedback they can use is amazing because it both hones your skills so you can pick out things in writing that need to be improved so your own writing can become better, and you help out another writer with helping them improve.
Qualified reviews earn you GPs at the end of the day. Depending on how many you do, the Review Mixer gives you GPs. EVERY DAY. So, not only is giving people feedback a great thing to do, it will get you rewarded automatically. Plus, if the people like the reviews you give them, the people might just send you GPs for your time and effort, too.
So, above are three ways you can start building up your own bank of GPs without having to plop down a bunch of money. Sure, they'll take some time and effort on your part, but getting involved in the community of Writing.Com can't be a bad thing. So, we hope to see you logging in, joining in on the scroll chat, and joining in with the reviewing (if you aren't already doing so).

Here's some of the feedback I received from my recent newsletters. Thank you so much to those who wrote in!
From "Noticing Newbies Newsletter (September 26, 2018)" :
runoffscribe said, "I have been here ten weeks. Reaching out has become my comfort zone.
The Newsfeed is my Great Enabler. Get the slug line right on a story announcement and you'll get a look. Get the opening right and you'll get a read. Write a good story and around five percent will review.
Post an encouraging, humorous or judicious comment, or response, and you will begin to build a reputation.
The best of you will shine through."
Sometimes it is mine, and sometimes not so much. I have certain people I'll reach out to all the time, because I'm comfortable with them, but most people I leave well enough alone. However, I do believe that it is very valuable to reach out to people when you need them, and you definitely can't get to know anyone new if you aren't willing to poke someone in the IM or email every now and then. ~ SJ

Good propos!
Best regards!"
Oh, I don't know if I do that, but I nudge and bother and at least help fill in gaps. Ha! I hope that is, at least, helpful. That's all I can hope for. ~ SJ
the Wordy Jay said, "What a great piece of advice for newbies, Sara Jean! You're right — this site has plenty to offer, but it's the PEOPLE here that make it so awesome."
Our people are certainly awesome! There's so many of us here, certainly someone for everyone to talk to. ~ SJ
And from "Noticing Newbies Newsletter (August 29, 2018)"
creatress said, "Thank you so much for sharing this article. Copyright law is so important and infringement is becoming more and more common through the internet. Perhaps you could do an article about websites."
Well, I can try. What questions do you have about websites specifically? That would help me focus on what you would like to see. ~ SJ
Please don't hesitate to write to me so I can include you in my next newsletter. Just write in the box below that says, "Send a comment or question to the editor!" and send me your comment or question.
The question for this newsletter is:
What are some ways you have learned that you can earn some GPs that you're willing to share with others?
Feel free to answer that question, or tell me something else. I'd love to hear from you! |
