Letter from the editor

The Good Book
Inspired by the Holy Bible Book of Proverbs 2:1-15 NIV

I can't forget my late grandma, when I was still eight years old, my late grandma handed me a beautiful treasure that until now I have it and it's my source of great knowledge and wisdom.
It was a black colored thick book, and when I flip up those pages, the words were written in our native language.

The first thing that I thought, its a book about fairies, prince, and princess because I always like to read books about fantasy, but my late grandma said:

"Keep this book, Joanna, written here is about God, His words, and it will give you strength and wisdom."

Though, even if I still didn't understand what she said but hearing about God, I keep the book, because I believe that there's a God who created us and created everything and I want to know Him too.

In spite of all the magical and fantasy book that lent to me by friends and books that I borrowed in the library, I find time to read the book that my late grandma gave to me especially at night before going to sleep. Until it became my habit to read every night.

Though, it was written in our native language its still hard for me to understand, especially in those books about letters. I often like to read the book where it stated the life of the Lord Jesus Christ because I mostly like and I can follow the scenario about His life, but just only the literal meanings I've understand, the way on what it happened during that time. I liked the parables and His teachings too, but Honestly, I don't understand its metaphorical meanings.

One night dad said to me when I was reading again the good book given to me by grandma.
"Why are you reading that book, it's hard to understand the words that were written there". he said

I remember that I didn't answer dad, but it left my mind thinking, that why dad said that he doesn't understand the book, the book was written in our dialect and I'm sure dad knows how to read because he is a professional.
I just thought he just only kidding because for me I understand the words written, though, the letters of St. Paul is still hard for me to understand, but the life of Jesus Christ, I understand His story.

Then my reading goes to the book of Genesis where God created everything, His magnificent creation and everything He created was good. How He created the first man and woman in His own image and likeness, and how human sinned and died.

I also liked the life story of Abraham the father of faith, Noah and its arc, Jonas inside the whale, Moses and The Ten Commandments and Joseph the Dreamer.

Then my reading went to the Book of David where he created heartful psalm-like poetry and the book of Solomon about wisdom and proverbs. This is where I remember my late grandma said to me that I will find here wisdom.

Then come those times in my life that it was so bitter.
I've faced trials, sufferings, and hard pains due to life's challenges that its so hard for me to find the strength that I need, that I almost forgot to read the good book, forgetting that through His words, in there, I will find the real strength and comfort that I really need.

Many nights that I seldom to read the good book, and in the day my mind is full of busyness and worries about deadlines of life demands and I've already forgotten to nurture my spirit its foods and needs until it came that time that I almost forgot the real me already.

Until one night, I woke up through the night that I am so thirsty, that my mind was restless, that I feel so empty and my spirit is already drained.

I tried to look for the good book because I felt that I need just to read of its words that time, but when I opened it, the words written are so blurred already, and why it's so hard for me to read those words already.
I felt horrible, shocked and afraid, my only last chance that I thought is to pray and to praise Him.

So that night, in the middle of the night, I tried to pray and praise Him and ask forgiveness for all my sin and my un-righteousness, the things that I've done that I almost forgot Him and forgot to nurture my spirit.

Along in the night, I cried so deeply.

I remembered all my hatred, my anger, my pain, my failures, my disappointments, discontentment, my rebellious and all the things that it's hard for me to accept. I have sinned.
I felt it in my heart that my spirit is crying.

Along in the night, in my deep crying. He heard my cry.
He reaches for my hand and gave me the peace, calm and The Hope that I need.

And Thanks God, It's true that no one can ever separate His love for us,(Romans 8:38-39) and it's true that even if we sometimes forgot Him, He is always there never leave us nor forsake us. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

I thanked The Lord God for His love and His great mercy and kindness. He never let me lost through that night. I thanked so much because The Lord never gives up on me, I thanked Him because I'm so important to Him and special.

So from that day, I did my best to nurture my spirit's food, trying not to let my spirit to be drained again. I return back to my habit of reading the good book before bedtime, I celebrate with Him and give thanks in every Sunday and I pray, trying to follow and do His will for me and a good friend encourage me that it is better to pray first before we read His words to ask Him to give us the wisdom of understanding, and its true before I read The Holy Bible I pray and I thank Him because the way I understand how the written words now, were very clear than the way that I understood before and its true that His words make us- our spirits to be nurtured, to be fulfilled, and to be glad.
In His words we find the real strength that we need, through His words, we will be happy and complete. *Heart* (Proverbs 2:1-15)

Feedback from our readers in "Romance/Love Newsletter (February 13, 2019)Open in new Window. I love Comments

Great News letter, Great advice.

~Rebecca

What is Love? Love is where your heart follows a subject whether it be spiritual or romance. I was raised by my granny and was the youngest in our family, and had everything done for me, and when I married I was learning to be a wife. I was enthusiastic about the new role in my life, but forgot to buy filling for sandwiches and so on just little mistakes, but my husband had lived in digs before marriage and he also was learning to be a husband. Our first fortnight of marriage was a nightmare, and although we were going to work in the morning we walked to our bus stop alone. I thought our marriage was doomed from the start but we survived 52 years. this is what love is facing the problems good and bad together.

~Mary Ann MCPhedran

You and I obviously have different spiritual paths, but where I see we are in agreement is that the highest form of love is of spiritual plains. Also, it depends on the motivations behind the actions. Usually, it is human nature to perform an action for a return. Whether that wanted return is unselfish return or for the hope of selfish gain depends on whether it is motivated by love or not.

Performing an action for someone with the expectation of a selfish return, not only sets one up for disappointment, but it is not actually an act done with love. Only when we do so without selfish expectations does it come from a spiritual place. Unselfish expectations come in many forms, such as just wanted to see the beauty in a loved one's smile, feeling happy we have raised another up, or simply finding joy in knowing we are helping another to succeed.
