It's that time of the year when it's easy to hibernate, but why not end this decade with a great accomplishment?
This week's Drama Newsletter is all about going for it - whatever challenge you'd like to set yourself.

It's freezing here, and it's been rainy for weeks now. So rainy that there's been flooding in the area. The weather reports keep on predicting snow, but no flakes have yet materialised. As the Guns N' Roses song goes, though, nothing lasts forever, even cold November rain. It just seems that way sometimes...
I don't know about you, but as the days grow darker I grow less energetic than during spring and summer. It is very easy, at this time of the year, to slip into a type of hibernation mode – not quite like a bear, but it's dark and gloomy, and the holidays are coming, and perhaps these things that need to be done can wait until next year, when there's a clean slate, and a fresh start, and bit by tiny bit the days grow lighter once more. Except, of course, that's not helpful. I am the Queen of Procrastination, but even I know that it's a shame to miss out on all the things that I could be doing before the end of this year and, indeed, this decade. Think about that when you need some encouragement – you could finish this decade with some accomplishments you can be proud of!
Some of you will already be nearing the finish line of a great accomplishment – there is only a week and a half of NaNoWriMo to go and at the end of it you will have a novel, or the beginnings of one, and that is certainly something to be proud of. You may be at that point when you feel that you are never going to make it, but you will. You have come this far! Even if you have some catching up to do, that's okay. You'll make up for it, and you'll cross that 50K line and pat yourself on the back, and for the rest of your life you can say that you did this. It's no small feat!
I've decided to catch up on two years' worth of "The Contest Challenge" [13+]. Why? It's an excellent way for me to get back into my writing and, in the process, I'm discovering all kinds of fun and interesting contests. I like how I'll be writing in different styles and on different subjects. I think that for one contest I have to write a sci-fi piece about a turkey. I've no doubt that some of my efforts will turn out better than others, but it doesn't matter. It's all experience, it's all fun, it's all a learning process. It's all worthwhile. If you haven't yet checked out this challenge, I can recommend it. You don't have to catch up – that is just a challenge I am setting myself. You can begin at any point – if you join in for November, you just have to complete one of the listed contests and with contests being quiet during NaNo, you stand a very good chance at winning something! You will also be making the contest hosts happy because without entries, contests aren't much fun to run.
You may have your very own something that you would like to do, and I fully encourage you to go for it. Perhaps you have never written a poem before, but would like to try. Perhaps you have never written a short story before, or attempted a certain form, or genre. It is always worth giving it a shot. You have absolutely nothing to lose. I once attempted a Western as part of a contest and even though I turned out to be absolutely dismal at that genre, I learned from it, including to never, ever try to write a Western ever again. Likewise, some poetry forms that I've tried ended up working for me, whilst some very much did not. I have no regrets either way. It was fun to do something new and different and, again, I learned something from the experience. One challenge I undertook won me the official site contest for that month. You just never know!
So, why not treat yourself during the holiday season with some you-time, a pen and a piece of paper, or your electronic device and a blank page. You may end up writing your biggest hit yet. I'll be here, completing my own challenge and hoping for the rain to stop. It will, sooner or later. Just as I'll reach my goal, and you will, too.
Wishing you a week filled with inspiration,
