This is the first poem I ever really worked on properly, I let it be a long time ago.
My greek goddess of ages
The fingers of my mind leave ethereal trails,
As – for a time surpassing millions – I recreate your image,
And in a flash,
You fill with blazing, searing brilliance.

Privileged you, the only one
To live behind my blinkered eyes
Mentally you are centred,
And you hover in a spiritual haze,
Now we are all alone
Shut away in my isolation.

Desperate to believe
In this deification, it is so easy
To think I have been touched forever.

Behind the darkness –
Marred only by veins of light –
My belief in the gods flickers.
Sense tries to draw a veil
Over these proceedings.

I shake my head,
Not even I can ruin this moment,
With ridiculous lucidity,
Slipping back
I revel in my idolatry,

You, a singular beam of light,
In my darker shade of life.
