About my fear of the dentist
The trembling has started, I try to bring it under controll but I am unable to. Dread and fear seem to overwhelm me. My breath comes in short gasps as I try to calm my racing heart that feels like it is going to explode out of my chest. Palms are sweating and my eyes dart around the room looking for an escape route, but I know that there is no escape.
I flex my hands trying to ease the pain of gripping the arm rest. My breath catchs as I hear the noise of a chair wheel moving over the vinyle tile behind me. I wonder who it is and if they are coming, my thoughts race as I wonder what is going on, I can hear the noise of cabinets sliding open and closed, packages being opened on the counter. I hear the echo of metal hitting metal. Sweat breaks out on my brow. I start to message my temples trying to ease the pressure behind my eyes. I know that this will happen adn I seem unable to stop the panic that is threating to overtake me. I lick my lips trying to draw some moisture into my mouth. Fear has made my mouth as dry as the Sahara.
I grip the arm rest as I hear the wheels rool over the tile, coming closer, my heart starts to race. I press my body down into the chair, trying to become one with the chair. My eyes dart around the room looking for an escape but finding none the look of defeat comes into my eyes as a face peers at me from above, smiling happily, I cringe squinting my eyes closed wanting to still deny the fact that they are here.
"Well, how are you doing today?" asks Bob my dentist
"Not to good" I reply " I am extreamly nervous."
He looks into my eyes with confidence
