The summers seem so far away;
What we shared was but a dream,
A memory that will slowly decay
Under the glow of Night's moonbeam.
Distance plays a cruel game,
Driven by envy
That burns like an undying flame,
Sending us ever deeper into ennui.
I am caressed by the velvet night,
Falling deeper into the lonely shadow.
I can just barely see a sliver of daylight;
The depthless abyss invites from below.
My will in opposing has vanished,
My attempts to overcome have failed.
The broken sword is no longer brandished,
The final defeat has been unveiled.
No matter what I do, it is hopeless;
We shall be together nevermore.
Our romance, once so precious,
Has become a thing I abhor.
And with this poem I rid all memories
Of our past and hand them to the Furies.
