I always wanted to be a catcher like Yogi Berra.
Oh, to be able to play the game like that!
Was it really possible or just chimera?

Although he swung at bad pitches and made some errors,
when the chips were down, he’s the one they wanted at bat.
I always wanted to be a catcher like Yogi Berra.

But those were the dreams of a different era.
Now my legs are weak, and my body’s a bit fat.
Was it really possible or just chimera?

Losing your youth can really be a terror.
What I wouldn’t give to get it back!

Now I work at trying to be a poet like Frank O’Hara,
but all my rhymes turn out to be flat.
Was it really possible or just chimera?

At least I didn’t wind up pushing a wheelbarrow,
so I guess it isn’t as bad as all that.
