I've been thinking lately about relationships... Mostly because I'm not in one at the moment and it seems to be taking up a lot of my thinking.. And I have decided that the best relationships are like your favorite pair of shoes... Bear with me for a moment while I explain my theory... Getting a new pair of shoes can be exciting and even for some people, a little scarey.. You go to the store and you look around and wait for something to catch your eye or maybe you already have an idea of what you are looking for.. And there on the shelf is the pair that makes all the other pairs look crappy in comparison.. You pick them up.. Look them over and know in your heart they are the right ones.. You pay for them, take them home and there they sit, in the box.. You take them out and look them over once again.. Perfect, absolutely perfect, no stains.. scratches... or defects.. They are something you can be proud of.. You put them on and strut your stuff.. But life happens and sooner or later those perfect shoes of yours get dirty and each day you wear them is another chance for something to happen to them.. And then one day you look over at them and they are no longer the same shoes you bought at the store so long ago.. They are no longer the perfect shoes with no dirt and no defects.. But if doesn't matter anymore, because when you put those shoes on they fit perfectly, as if they were made just for your feet.. They hold memories, all the places you ever walked are held right in that one pair of shoes.. People might tell you to get a new pair, those ones are old school, out of date or just plain ruined, but you know.. that those shoes.. are the perfect ones for you.. Relationships go kinda the same way.. You meet someone new.. someone that catches your eye and makes all other people look bad.. You talk and get to know each other and before you know it you're going out on dates and starting something new.. But the good stuff doesn't last forever.. You might start noticing the other persons annoying habits and fights might happen more often than they did before.. You still have your good days though.. The days when its just the two of you.. hanging out.. doing the things you did when you first started dating.. And when you look over at that special someone you know that even though you have had bad times, there are still good days to look forward too.. You have memories.. you know the person like you know yourself.. And even though people might tell you if would be fun to try something new.. start out fresh.. you know that no other person would compare to the one you already have... They're like your favorite pair of shoes.. the ones that fit just right.. and you wouldn't trade that for the world...
