Hoorah for the first day of Spring,
What happiness the sunshine can bring!
Here's to the brave golden daffodils
and the crocus that make my heart sing!
Wild pansies are sweet and quite petite,
growing with abandon among the elite;
Each small bud is a promise of bloom
that can light up the darkness real soon.
Along the path, a patch of green grass
will surely welcome us as we pass;
The birds all rejoice with a happy tune
and just look at the size of the moon!
A Monarch butterfly catches my eye
as it flutters about, not caring why;
a baby lamb kicks up heels best it can,
These are blessings not created by man.
First loves and old loves cherish the day,
with the warmth and smell of the hay;
Spring lightens and brightens a weary heart,
it's Mother Nature's true work of art.
Oh, I welcome the first day of Spring;
even muddy dirt roads are something!
Old gardeners like me quickly agree
that winter has finally set Spring free!
