Now and again a thing will exist that just doesn’t fit in the place where it’s put.
Now and again
a thing will exist
that just doesn’t fit in the place where it’s put.

I know such a case,
a deplorable mess,
the sea monster with sea sickness.

When no one had come
and no one has gone,
he knew in his heart that he was alone.

He hated the ocean,
he hated the waves,
he hated the throw up he threw up each day.

So he made up his mind,
And then he set out,
with the thought that somewhere must be better.

Along the way
almost every day
people would frown at what he would say.

He was called many things,
some he should not repeat,
and wondered with each if that was his name.

He heard more then once
“the most ugly mermaid.”
“mermaid?”
he thought.
The mer might be right but the maid must be wrong.

He swam and he swam
and he swam and he swam
‘til he just couldn’t swim anymore

so.

He held his breath
and hoped for the best,
he awaited the tide and then floated ashore.

He awoke on a beach,
not quite sure of the place he had reached.

He looked all around
from the sky to the ground,
and off in the distance he saw a great mound

With big white letters
he could see it quite good,
the sign on the hill said Hollywood.

When he walked on the beach,
most people run
and the shore was cleared except for one man.

This man looked at him
like a big giant prize,
he had a big smile and dollar signs in his eyes.

So the man took the monster to a wonderful place
where people didn’t scream and people didn’t run,
they were all quite happy to see his face.

So the monster
stared at the cameras
and he stared the lights,
and thought this a wonderful place for his life.

So he spent all his days inside a fake swamp,
under a big fake moon,
and was soon known all over the world
as the creature from the black lagoon.

From that day forth
no one ran and no one screamed,
and children gave him hugs.

His new friends said to stay
and make some more films,
and soon his green face graced
green shirts and green mugs.

“So that’s my story,
believe me it’s true,
and if you’re like me it could happen to you.”

“And almost for sure
it’s not what you’d guess
but things have a way to work out for the best.”

“All you have to do is:

Keep an eye on yourself,
never lose sight of your hopes and your dreams,
and follow them
wherever they lead.”
