This is what i sent into a contest but just found out i got rejected.
Fluffy the squirrel was a tiny brown squirrel that was getting ready to go to tree- school. He was really scared and kept asking questions like “ What if the other kids don’t like me?” and “What am I going to school for anyways?” His parents would tell him not to worry and how school would teach him how to explore the outside world without getting hurt.
The day before tree- school, he decided he would learn to explore on his own and figured that way he wouldn’t have to go to tree-school. He poked his head out of the tree hole and looked around. He didn’t see anything so he scampered down the tree and off into the woods. He was jumping tree to tree, examining flowers until he saw a little mouse.

He quickly made friends with her. Her name was Ronda and she explained she was out gathering food. They began to play hide-and-seek until Ronda began to question him.
“ Why are you out here all alone? You could get hurt without someone to protect you.” Ronda said.
“ Your out here by yourself too. “ Fluffy argued.
“ No I’m not. My parents are right over there. Your parents can’t even see you. You could have gotten hurt and no one would have known where you were. We aren’t old enough to be out here on our own. We don’t know what can hurt us and what can’t.” Ronda explained.
“ Ok…I guess I’ll see you at tree-school tomorrow and I better head home then.” Fluffy said as he watched Ronda’s parents keep an eye on her and gather food. He said his good-byes and then left scampering into the woods. However, a second later he realized he was lost and didn’t know how to find his way home or how to find which way he had came from. He circled a tree for a little while, searching for something that looked familiar.
He found nothing and realized he was really lost. Lost in the woods and could get hurt by anything that saw him. He saw a shadow fly over him and looked up. Oh no!! It’s an owl! He thought and curled in a little ball to protect him the best he could from the impact, an impact that never came. Instead, he looked up and saw the owl standing before him.
“ Don’t worry little one I won’t eat up. You look lost, where’s your mommy and daddy?” She asked him.
“ I don’t know! I didn’t want to go to tree-school so I went exploring, but now I’m LOST!” Fluffy began to cry.
“ Shhh…Don’t worry. I know where you live and I’m here to take you home. Here climb into my claw.” She comforted as she scooped him up in the claw.
Fluffy liked the feeling of flying it was very neat to watch all the little animals from above, and feel the night wind brush through his fur. Soon, he saw his home and began to get excited. They landed in the hole and she put him down.
“ Now here you are, your home where you belong. Now what have you learned?” She asked him.
“ I learned not to go anywhere that you don’t know. I also learned that going to tree-school would have helped me find my way home and keep me safe.” Fluffy answered just happy to be home.
“ You are a very lucky little squirrel that I found you. If another owl found you, you could have been seriously hurt or worse. So tomorrow at tree-school, we are going to go over ways to explore the woods.” She smiled and then flew away into the night sky.
