You looked at me with hopeful eyes,
when I looked back I was surprised.
I then saw you needed me, it's true,
and then I realised, I needed you too!

You took my hands and asked outright,
I must admit it gave me a fright,
and I saw the hope in you eyes,
they tell all, they do not lie.

you now look at me, unable to say,
or repeat the words I saw that day.
I remember this now and see the truth,
that an eye's for an eye and a tooth's for a tooth.
