I saw you when the night was new, a star, dangling, hypnotic...
I saw you when the night was new,
A star,
Dangling,
Hypnotic.
You were bait cast by providence
Floating alluringly upon midnight’s deep, calm sea.

There you drifted,
Twinkling,
And I caught you.

I caught a diamond,
Brilliant,
Coveted.
You were a prize I set in gold
And proudly placed upon my finger so all could see.

You drew eyes,
Unknowing,
And I displayed you.

I displayed a trophy,
Rusting,
Nostalgic.
You were set on a shelf above the fireplace
A relic kept for the sentimental memories you represented.

There you sat,
Glowing,
And I tired of you.

I tired of a pretty babble,
Unwanted,
Outgrown.
You were once love and life and beauty,
But your love and life and beauty no longer amused me.

You bored me.
Unfeeling,
I cast you out.

I cast a flame to the wind.
So flickers,
So wavers
The flame.
I though you were so strong and brilliant, a raging inferno,
But your life was no more than a candle, a tremulous flame on a wick.

Your brilliance dulled.

Your sparkle waned.

Your flame faltered.

Your star fell,

And love, life, and beauty faded into darkness.
