There's this lullaby...
There's this lullaby I used to know,
It had the sweetest melody I knew.
It encompassed the gentlest tune I've ever known,
It shouldn't, but it reminds me of you.
A saccharine facade, filled with empty hope,
Broken promises and endless memories.
I didn't look close enough behind the mask,
It isn't your fault, the blame's on me.
There was nothing you could say,
You know that I wasn't listening.
The pain finally caught up on time,
I just stopped breathing.
The lullaby kissed me goodnight,
Just as you eventually will.
I'll reminisce about it all,
The most beautiful song still.
