A poem of sad awareness.
Photos on the Wall

You invited me in. We walked down the hall.
The lighting was perfect for frames big and small.
The background was muted, the colors were kind.
The mountings were perfect, all matted and lined.

There's Grandma and Grandpa, Aunt Betty and Ben.
There's even one of Smokey, Grandma's dear friend.
Four kids and a husband and you in a row.
One of your Dad though gone a long time ago.

I couldn't help but notice, plain as could be.
There's photos of everyone, all except me.
No snapshot, no likeness, no mention at all.
Mother doesn't exist in the photos on the wall.
