Inspired by yet another co-worker. She has nightmares about her job as glassware cleaner |
**** The following poem was inspired by a coworker who confided that she has nightmares about her job.She washes glassware at the lab where we work. A test called BOD's uses special galssware which is cleaned in a special solution once a month. "Kathy" calls this job "chroming BOD's" which is related to one of the chemicals in the solution. "Danny" and "Jean" perform tests that just use a lot of everday lab glassware and "Stephanie" performs tests that determine amounts of metals in the substance tested."Fred" is a nickname for a piece of filtering equipment that "Kathy" has to pry apart with a hammer and "Sid" is the boss.Enjoy! Haunted Adrift in a sea of acetone Kathy's ship did sail, A giant test tube floating Inside an orange pail. And when it was time To chrome BOD's She jumped up and down And shouted, "More please!" Danny had his flasks All lined up in a row With pink ink inside And wrapped up with a bow. Jean had her beakers Sitting on her cart. Kathy turned to look at her And said,"Ain't you smart!" And when she was done Washing all those dishes, She sat down with Stephanie To catch some metal fishes. Well, along came "Fred" And sat down beside her, But she beat him in the head With a jug of nitric cider! She woke up crying That Kathy did. She was screaming out "Please help me, Sid!" It was a nightmare. And so it seems, That R&A labs Has haunted her dreams! |
