a poem about a slave girl runs away from a cruel owner and runs away and commits suicide.
Stealthily she crept into the night,
She scarcely dared to breath.
She feared the harsh and glaring lights
She was running to her creed

Though the dark was soon to end
She knew she could not rest.
Given wounds she could not mend,
Her death was for the best.

A knife was hanging by her side,
She drew it out with fear.
A thousand she would rather have died.
Her fate was crystal clear.

The knife was aimed to take her life
She knew it hit the mark
She remembered all her strife,
As she wept her eyes grew dark,

Then she knew no more.....
