This is a poem about one of the scariest things in the world
I remember when the mirror scared me.
When I looked in, beyond the dirt
and smudges of toothpaste, and my eyes were
dark and blank. They were shining,
wet, deep, and black like nothing.
My skin was milky, flooded
with pale white. I was a stranger,
a stranger with dots instead of freckles.
