in my re-occurring dreams this dead boy is still breathing.
There he was with his usual, colossal grin.
Why is he here? I thought Heaven unfolded.
His name is Jon. Jon was a neighbor, classmate, and daily greeting.
Five years past, he committed suicide, yet in my re-occurring dreams this dead boy is still breathing.

His happiness makes going to sleep fascinating.
He was a lonesome, high school freshman and a nuisance for teasing people to gain attention. His ADD caused him to speak outrageously, though I looked beyond a malicious kid that treated others impolitely. I noticed a welcoming individual, in need of a friend, waiting for the bus with me each morning.

I believe Jon and I are communicating in an extraordinary way. We are appreciating the moment. I’m unsure of the words he’s trying to enlighten me with, but it doesn’t matter because his presence and touch is enough to say, “it’s okay, I’m here.” He’s somewhere alive and unforgotten, content and forgiving.

His dark brown hair cut and combed same as before, however, he appears new. The tragedy those blue eyes must have seen before the gunshot makes me curious of the life he lived. He seems pleased doing his normal activities such as, boxing and spending time outdoors. He gave me an invitation to go four wheeling with him. Oh, I remember those days we’d be riding, but never joined each other and now we get to. If only he wasn’t voiceless. Maybe he wants me to talk because I was always the quiet one.“Hi!” I acknowledged Jon, as I lie on a hill above the serene river. Gazing up at me is this striking guy wearing a beautiful smile, rowing his boat.

I awaken to silence, unsure whether to be disappointed because Jon is gone, or gratified because he’s with me and we’re breathing the same air once more.
