extending friendship

pictures traded
letters mailed
a phone call
a silver friendship ball arrives
hangs from a nail in my house

the millenium arrives
9/11 happens everywhere
I finish my degree
I divorce
we have lost touch so many years before

the tarnished silver is returned
a long letter bringing the present into the future
the bottle afloat in the ocean of time and circumstance
a message that may never arrive
a message that may never be returned

online isn't a physical space
yet somewhere there
we met and
we shared
for a time
