This is a poem about my beloved feline friend. |
She bustles to the door when she hears my key Her sweet whispering meows bring me to my knee I caress her tummy and pat her furry head Then I wipe away the hair that was shed She runs to her food dish asking for a fresh bite She sits and patiently waits, ever so polite “Hey You! Down here, show me you care!” Her eyes fixed on me in a beseeching glare I happily oblige and fill her bowl to its edge A few chews; then she darts to her window ledge She hurdles the three feet and walks with a strut Standing still a few times to jiggle her butt She talks her own language but I still comprehend It’s been ten years since she’s been my friend If she could talk "ours", oh the stories she might tell Any other roommate would have bid “farewell” She knows I’m not perfect but doesn’t pay mind Her love for me is unconditional and blind She has faults too! Her piercing claws and flying fur But I forget all about em’ when I hear her sweet purr It’s been ten years since she’s been my friend My times with a broken heart; she’s encouraged to mend She stares in my eyes, stroking her nose on mine in a kiss It’s as if she’s casting a grabbling iron into my abyss I watch with allegiance as she naps in delight I repeat how much I adore her until it’s trite I believe we’re destined to share this lifes quest I promise all the days of her life will be blessed |
