My head seems to be in the garden, but you are welcome to come and visit.
She only wanted flowers
To brighten up the spot
In the dreary street-side corner
Of her tired city lot.

She only wanted flowers,
Like the kind her Gram loved best,
To kindle favorite memories
Of a childhood sweetly blessed.

She only wanted flowers,
So her mother brought her starts,
Of iris, rose, and peony
And Grandma’s bleeding heart.

She only wanted flowers,
But soon the neighbors came
To chat along the little fence,
Or ask a flower’s name.

She only wanted flowers,
But soon the bees came too…
Then butterflies and hummingbirds,
Just to name a few.

She only wanted flowers,
But the birdbath was a gift.
She set it by the garden bench,
and felt her spirit lift.

She only wanted flowers,
But discovered so much more,
And now it makes her smile to see
a new garden next door.
