this is a poem about the sunset
Tall grass surrounds me like amber arms
reaching toward the darkening sky.
A vast valley, dark, yet welcoming,
lays before my eyes, telling me of
Summers long past.
Silhouetted by the descending sun,
the trees stand strongly before the
might of the wind, that now playfully
toys with my hair, bringing me into
a never ending dance of spirit.

The sun now meets the distant horizon,
flashing brilliant streaks of scarlet light
along the remaining wisps of cloud that
dared come forth against the summer sky.
I slowly stand, leaving the imprint of my
body in the midst of the soft grass that
sacrificed its comfort for mine.
I slowly raise my arms, spreading them wide,
embracing the power that the sun lets forth
through the pallet of colors that has now expanded
throughout not just the sky, but every depth of the valley,
clinging to every blade of grass, discovering the places
that shadows once hid with a dark cloak.

As I stand, the beauty rushes through my body,
spreading through every muscle and nerve, overwhelming
every other thought and emotion.
As the colors seem to swirl about me, grabbing my
soul and lifting it as high as it could go, I hear
the cry of a lone wolf, a wolf that i realize
is not different from myself. He is a traveler,
stopping to announce his cry to the world, to appreciate
the sheer beauty of this magic evening.
I feel the cry pierce my heart, my soul, my spirit.
It swirls about me with the colors of sunset, yet
seems to seep into the earthy ground.
I feel as though I am flying, wrapped in an
eternal bond of nature.

And then, as soon as it had begun,
the last peak of the sun sinks behind the last tree,
leaving the world in a deep darkness.
As I lay back down in the cool grass,
the stars appear, timidly entering as
remnants of the sun's eternal light.
The moon appears over my head, ready
now to take its turn to bathe the world
in it's pale glow.

I close my eyes now, enjoying a calm
after the most beautiful storm
