Nurse Lingus pulled open the sliding glass door and stepped out onto the thin layer of green grass that covered the patio floor. She’d look all over the castle for the doctor and now she was secretly kicking herself for not having the foresight to seek out this area sooner. Sure enough she’d once again found him out here, planting a tee down into the artificial grass and balancing a small white ball on top of it.
“Connie, how many times have I told you not to disturb me when I’m out here?” he said, lifting his body up and lining up the golf club he held behind the tee.
She stood there in silence for a moment as he made a few practice motions before striking the ball hard with the club and sending it soaring out over the skies above the town of Strokerville.
“Well, as you know, as much as I dread coming out here and watching you play with your…clubs, I felt that it was my duty to inform you that your latest batch is waiting for your inspection. As you know trial runs have to made. Experiments have to be set up.”
“No!” the doctor screamed out as he turned to face the nurse, his face twisted in a frown behind his spectacles and white beard. “No more experiments will be necessary. He turned back around and removed another tee and ball from the pocket of his lab coat.
“What ever you say, Dr. Stuffinfuzz. I just hope this one doesn’t blow up in your face.”
“Go, go, go! Leave me, women!” Nurse Lingus let out a huff before turning her back to him and storming away from the patio. “There is no need to worry,” the doctor said to himself as he lined up his next shot. “Nothing to worry about at all.” He swung hard and knocked the ball out into the air, away from his castle in the mountains, sending it flying out towards the citizenry that populated the city below. His lips curled up into a grin.
