Love can be blind, but when it turns to violence CALL.

I saw you walk through the door
and emerge from
the smoky haze.
My eyes fell upon
your beautiful physique,
and they were grateful.
I greeted you same as
I do everyone I know,
with a hug and a
kiss on the cheek.
That night is one I
I will never forget,
as it was the beginning
of the end of me.
The budding relationship flourished.
You were intent on
pleasing me in
every way and I,
not being accustomed
to such attention,
sucked it up like a child
with a straw in a soda.
I was drawn to you,
even though you
encouraged me to
indulge in activities
which were not my style.
I was drawn to you,
even though your mouth spoke untruths.
I was drawn to you,
even though your lust for others became reality.
I was drawn to you,
even though your blows reined down on me
and you held me captive
in my own house.
Yes, such power is held
by the forceful hand that feeds you-
not only nourishment for the body-
but also for the addiction you created within me.
Once a child of God,
now a victim of abuse, searching for that
spiritual connection
that once guided
my every step.
It seems obsolete,
out of reach.
My once grateful eyes
are but sad slits
amid puffy bruises,
but I am drawn to you.
