A reply to a negative connotation of The city Of Camden, N.J. |
Nations’ ‘Most Dangerous”. August 8, 2006. In November, 2004, Camden, N.J. was dubbed America’s ‘Most Dangerous City’. A statement wherein its author, Morgan Quitno Press, supposes it to be a ‘matter-of-fact’ judgment based on crime statistics from across the nation - and they believe their position is unassailable. If we didn’t know better (and most don’t), we would accept their most educated opinion as a fact. We would then take-off on that familiar, drawn-out riff that we should all know by heart: That these many instances of crime are due to societal causes, racial injustice, sub-par education levels, low-level income, high illegitimacy rates among…well, you get the idea. Not to say that these situations don’t exist in our society but they are not the sole cause of crime in this country. Not even the most immediate cause. Crime, specifically gun-related crime, is the direct result of the proliferation of handguns on our nation’s streets providing a too-easy means for some to threaten or seriously harm others. The firearms manufacturers in this country not only make the guns that kill and maim, they also push them mercilessly at our populace and their guiding principle is to profit at any human cost If you have questions of your own, just go on-line and type them into your search engine. You will be unpleasantly surprised at what you discover. Here in Camden, N.J. we are arming ourselves for the up-coming battle for our lives, our children and our city. Not with bullets and guns, but with ballots. Because along with this unwelcome title of ‘Americas Most Dangerous’ comes a determined resolve to acquit ourselves of this most negative designation. |
