I was just sitting in my study Doing what I usually do Surfing the Net, planing dreams While writing a novel or two And Kitty was at my side Like she is every day But above our heads we were hearing Annoying mice at play I said, "Kitty it’s time to earn your keep" "So I’m sending you upstairs" "To battle those nasty beasts" "Intruding on our silence here" So Kitty gave a nod and wink And headed into the attic Quietly sneaking up the stairs To see where they were at it A bit anxious and impatient I sat waiting in my chair While Kitty silently patrolled the attic To find the culprit’s lair Then I heard a small rumble And another rumble again And I began to shout at the ceiling “Go on Kitty get them!” Then after a moment of silence Kitty came roaming down I opened the door and tried to see Just what it was she’d found Then down she rushed to the kitchen And I said, “Wait for me!” “Don’t go burying it somewhere” “In a place I might see!” So I chased down after her And called her to come forth “Let me see the prize you’ve got” “Whatever it is worth” And I looked down at her My eyes wide with fear “What is that in your mouth?” “Come closer over here!” And with a twinkle in her eyes She looked up at me to smile And dropped her catch of the day In her most proudest style Feeling fear and hopefully proud I then looked at the floor With my hand held to my head I said “Good God it’s a pipe cleaner!” |
