Smiles lost on the summer breeze
A forewarning. . .
To the lonesome chill of autumn’s breath
Steel yourself against the unavoidable
Penetrating bitter cold
Harsh grief of winter to come.
No fresh spring that follows
No new blossoms
Only dry, brittle remains ravaged by the devastating freeze;
To crush underfoot.
Dreary sky looms overhead
Shadows fall on scrub and brush
Winter’s dead moss hangs from branches
In trees. . .
Adorned with leaves of rust, brown and gold
The sky opens up and an icy rain begins to fall
It cries for you
And for me.
The cold drops;
Tears of our Mother Earth.
