A poem written as I was starting college in the '90s.
I know not where I go
I barely recognize where I’ve been
Life seems to progress so slow
Yet time passes too quickly to measure
Has my sorrow been seen
By those who can bring me pleasure?

It seems not to matter
what I do day to day
Life slaps me down
And I have nothing to say

Yet I find words to write
words which seem meaningless
I continue to try out of spite
But I despair, I confess.

Can I do nothing well
Save that which is looked down upon?
Locked as I am in this cell
I struggle still to free myself
A call from the unknown urges me on
that I am more than I see myself
