A day at a hospital.
As I sit in the emergency waiting room
The smell of the too clean hallways
Gets to me.

I stand up and try to breathe
Through my mouth to block
Out the smell of the too clean hallways.

The hurried sound of the nurses
Footsteps brings chills down my spine
And down my whole body.

I try to remember why I am there
Yet I can’t remember
Past a few hours ago.

It’s not that my experience was too
Traumatizing. I just can’t seem to remember
Anything lately.

I look down the too clean hallways
And into the opening elevator
I see no one that I know.

A hurried nurses footsteps come closer
To me. I stand up to greet her
She tells me I can come in now.

I tell her I don’t want to
And she shrugs and is on her way.
She is not a very comforting nurse.

People rush past me
Too fast for my liking
Their too clean hospital smell gets wafted in my direction.

A close family friend sits by me
After visiting my family member
In their too clean hospital bed.

They try to comfort me (Unlike the too clean nurse)
But I can’t remember why I’m in
The too clean hospital to begin with.

Eventually, I leave
The too clean hospital
(Though too clean is better than unsanitary).

I forget what happened that day
(Just like everything else)
At the too clean hospital.
