A short story with lyrics in it. |
“I remember it all to well,” she said, while the handful of sand she just picked up ran through her trembling fingers. He took her hand and lay it down on her knee. His eyes told her to calm down. “I hate that look on your face, it drags me in time after time.” At the sound of her confused words he smiled. He looked at her and started plucking his guitar strings. A loving tune started filling the air, and so she closed her eyes. He started singing; “The warmth on your skin, Sun in your eyes. People who love you By your side. Still it’s so hard to say, I’m okay. Standing in a puddle of mud, The rain on your head. Thinking about all the good things instead. It’s easier to say, I’m okay. I told you tomorrow would be better, You smiled and said; “That’s what you always say.” I look at you one more time, You didn’t look back and walked away. Walking the path of glory, People kissing your feet. Got everything you want But nothing you need. You say; you never really felt okay. You say; You never had it your way. You told me yesterday was better. I smiled and said: “That’s what you always say.” You looked at me one more time. I looked back and stayed. The warmth on your skin, Sun in your eyes. People who love you By your side. I just want you to know; We’re okay.” The tune died out. She looked at him, amazed. She never knew he could sing so well. He smiled, and took her hand again. This time he lay it on his own knee. And his hand on hers. Then he said his first unsung words of that night; ”I love you, forget what happened, please.” She doubted and tried to remember everything that had passed. Her doubts were subdued when he kissed her. The sun was now fully drowned in the calm waters of the sea. They lay on the dark dunes for hours. And he sang for her, and she listened. And they loved that evening, and eachother. |
