The Soldier

The small girl is a soldier
On the battlefield of change
Every moment getting bolder
Feeling life’s unrelenting pace

With insolence for a shield
And her temper for a sword
She travels in the mine field
Her fear for the time is stored

Her wild nature must be tamed
For there is no time to play
As her innocence is maimed
Her spirit is slowly dwindling away

Youth fades far too quickly
With adversity for a foe
The fight continues bleakly
But strife wins the final blow

On the battlefield of luck
The little girl can’t win
And like the soldier’s shellshock
Her troubles have yet to begin
