A visit to the ocean. |
Overlooking the gray Atlantic, we shivered. Emily and I watched the white capped waves pound upon the boulders and cliffs. Angry they came, pure energy and adrenalin. Roaring and snorting like angry bulls. Dashing spent upon the face of the sea wall, they would retreat as if to regroup, only to attack again. The air was thick with fog and we cuddled upon a damp wooden bench, watching the breakers. "Baby, do you want to go inside and look at the museum stuff?" "No daddy, I would rather sit with you and watch the water. What would happen if we were down there?" I shuddered to imagine, while another breaker slammed the shore. West Quoddy Head State Park nestles on top of a cliff overlooking Lubec Narrows in Maine. The bay, known as Fundy is home to the biggest difference between low and high tides. On a calm day the seas tend to be rough. Most days are not calm in Down East Maine. High waters and stormy days are Emily's favorite. Her sense of awe and fascination with this natural wonderland make me realize that nature is so huge and we are so small, as we huddle, watching mighty waves smashing and crashing, rebounding and attacking again. |
