A little story about the friendship of two boys and their adventure of the day. |
Tom loved to take pictures, especially of nature. Once a week he and his friend, Alex, would go on various trips to take the most magnificent photographs. Now, Tom has decided to start taking pictures of the wild animals in the woods near where he lived. A few days later, he and Alex were camping out in the woods, trying to find the best spot to take some pictures of bear cubs that he had just spotted nearby. As he inched closer and closer, Alex whispered to him. “Don’t get too close! You never know when the mother will come back!” Tom was not listening. He was already busy setting up the camera and focusing the cubs I the viewfinder. The cubs were too busy eating berries off a bush to notice them watching them. Suddenly, Alex stiffened. “Did you here that?” “Hear what?” Tom muttered, staring intently at the cubs. Then he heard a low growl coming from behind them. Alex held his breath; his eyes were wide with fear. The mother bear was right behind them. Quickly, Tom covered Alex’s mouth with his hand before he could scream. “Stay as still as you possibly can. No matter what happens, don’t make a sound,” he whispered. The bear came right up to them and started sniffing their clothes and gear, both curious and suspicious about these two strangers. Since they were not moving, the bear figured they were no threat to her cubs or herself and lumbered back through the trees, calling her cubs to follow her. In just a few minutes, the bears were gone. Tom removed his hand from Alex’s mouth, listening carefully for any other sounds. There was nothing else there. Alex was shaking but soon reposed himself. “I think it’s best we get out of here while we’re still alive” Tom joked. “You think?” Alex said, annoyed at Tom’s blasé countenance after such a dangerous ordeal. They made their way back to the campsite but everything was gone. “I just can’t believe this, everything is going wrong,” Alex said, stunned and frustrated. Tom laughed. “I guess today just isn’t our day.” That really ticked Alex off. He exploded, “How could you just blow all of this off? First we almost get killed by a bear and now all of our stuff is gone!” Tom shrugged his shoulders, “I don’t let things like this bother me. Otherwise, I would worry too much. I do not see the point of overreacting to things when you can just enjoy everything that you do. I know that I can be rash and get into trouble all the time but that is why I need a friend like you to watch my back and stop me from doing something dumb. Alex sighed. Tom was right of course, he usually was. “Alright, I’ll keep saving your behind as long as you keep saving mine, just like how you saved us from that bear a while ago.” Tom smiled broadly, “It’s a deal!” They walked back through the trees, forgetting that they had just lost all of their camp materials. They even got lost for a little while. They did not care; they were too busy reenacting the adventures of their day together. |
