Inspired by a picture of a lady embracing a dark angel
The Dance of Life and Death

The Lord of Death and the Lady of Life
Danced on Winter's first night,
Round and round on the soft white snow,
He the darkness, she the light.

When their dance was done, she said, "It's time.
I'm tired.  I must lie down."
The Dark One knelt beside his love
As she sank down to the ground.

He said, "Sleep, my dear.  The Winter's mine."
As he covered her gently with snow.
"I'll keep you safe within the earth
As the killing winds do blow."

She said, "My love, I will dream of you,
Until we dance again.
When the snow is gone and the earth is warm,
I'll come back to you then.

When the flowers bloom and the leaves are green
And the Summer sky is blue,
Then it will be your time to sleep,
And I'll watch over you."

As the Lady drifted off to sleep,
Her lover held her tight
And sheltered her with his dark wings
Throughout the frozen night.

These lovers' dance will continue on
In every first and last breath,
For all that live will someday die,
But new Life comes from Death.
