Can You?

Can you.....?

Can you hold your head high and look others in their eyes
While some desperately scramble to cover their lies?

Can you harness your anger and discourage a rift
While others try to injure with tongues and fists?

Can you trust your word when all others have doubt
While forgiving the ones whose lies run about?

Can you stand in patience when waiting in line
While others grumble, complain, push and whine?

Can you ignore a lie that is told on you
While being grateful that you don't deal in lies, too?

Can you love those who hate you, be kind when they're bad
While others plot revenge, become hateful; get mad?

Can you speak well of others, lift up those who frown
While some people delight in tearing others down?

Can you celebrate a win and learn from losing
While some turn to cheating as their way of choosing?

If you can be proud - and avoid living in pride
If you can be strong - and know you have a weak side
If you can forgive - and acknowledge your own sin
If you can love others - and not allow hate in
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master
If you can be content - and aim for better; not faster
If you can meet with both failure and success
Your reward will be great when pass all these tests
So, if you truly believe that you are not on your own
That Jesus was sent to show us how it's done
Then when your last day on this earth is spent
You can look towards the sky when the angels are sent
To carry you to that great finishing school
Where the "Can you's" and "If you's" no longer rule
For we will be like Jesus; joint heirs to the Throne
With our Heavenly Father saying "I'm glad you're home".
We'll marvel at the mercy and grace we were given
By He who understood the life we were living
So think of the things you can do; and will choose
Heaven is waiting......and there, you can't lose!
