An instant that destroys a life
She lays in the bed comfortably and warm
she is at peace with herself, and the world around her
half asleep and half awake on a January morning she drifts back into the thoughts of love's embrace
In the sheets she lingers with his scent and his warmth, his love- resting in the bed of her love, she rests in his love, his caresses and his warm touch
she is at peace
she drifts away

In an instant though a stranger enters the room and the cold biting January air comes with him
he is not a stranger but in this instant he is not her friend-this is an animal, cold and crazed and lustful
the look in his eyes is manic and she does not recognize the look until it is too late and then she'll remember the look forever, though she wishes everyday that she could forget

The cold arms of an animal take her suddenly and then she is lost- she is taken from her world and from her love somewhere else that is dark and cold- her life and her safe haven are all suddenly stolen

She tries to scream but in an instant she is somewhere else and the animal is on top of her the force is too much and the look is manic and crazed he wants to take her in an instant so the screams wouldn't have mattered anyway she cant remember anything because she is too far away the screams the cries the pain the fear they wouldn't have mattered anyway her fear made her numb- she didn't feel the pounding- the saw the crazed looked but looked away- her tears didn't matter the time froze the pain froze the feelings and then she realized as she was far away that nothing mattered anyway

The animal is finished and he leaves her there-walks away satisfied with the kill
a wounded creature lays- far away she walks back to the bed
there is nothing else she can do, she lays down and cries

She cries for the person that she was
for the hopes that she had
for the person she never will be again
