My thoughts on lowering the flag to half staff |
Flags at Half Staff Have we turned into cowards, the worlds been painted and manipulated way before we saw the towers, flags at half staff, but what determines such a decision, the country they lived in, or the surroundings in which they were slaughtered, tell me whats the difference between 1,5,32 or 1,000, what lowers the flag, shame, helplessness, or the wieght of death, I know it's to show respect and honor, but on what do we judge the weight of each loss, that they died in a class or in which class they died, five days ago 3,000 american troops were dead, the flag flew high, today 32 die, and there at half staff, i guess the weight was greater, colored faces deformed, tounge pulled through a hole in his neck, but he only wieghed forty pounds, the flag flew high, I question on what do we decide is an important death, what makes one death greater then the next, if there strangers to us why do we grieve more and why do we greive less, I suppose if the position of the flag was jugded on the weight of death in this world it would remain at the feat of the ignorant waiting for a death important enough to raise it to half staff, mothers arms and legs swaped places, but theres no grieving for those faces, flags flew high when 400,000 Iraqs' died all for a lie, on what do we judge the importants of death, September 11 more important lives then the 900,000 slaughtered in Rwanda, why fight now and not then, the lives that were lost were more important, or the lives we needed to take were less important, the weight should be felt on the shoulders of each American, not displayed selectivly on a flag pole, and if so, tell me what does the flag represent, arogance and snubness to the meek, a turned cheek to the poor, anyone who died at war, a symbol to the elite, the heavier lives, more important deaths, I guess the only lives that can lower the flag to half staff, mocking all the greiving widows, the lonely fathers, sons and daughters of less important tragedies, or so they say, or so they do not say, what lowers the flag, the wieght of blood shed, no, the amount of people slaughtered,no, the innocence of the victims,no, the amount of slaughter per hour, should we have a set limit of death that would lower the flag, perhaps 50 deaths a day,no, 1000 deaths a day, enough wieght,no those 1000 might not be important enough, perhaps one death could lower it though, if the elite felt that soul was preveileged enough, I'm not suggesting that you fly your flag at half staff everyday someone is slaughtered, would it be to much to bare, I'm suggesting that no flags are flown until they are all truly flags of piece and indeffernce, flags that don't judge one catastrophy to be greater then another, but in a world like that, I suppose flags would not exist |
