How a walk turned into an extraordinary dance... |
I was walking through the hills one day, When I heard some distant laughing. I found the suspect upon my way From the brooklet's constant babbling. The water looked nice, so I sat nearby And dabbled my toes in its eddies. When by and by I heard a soft sigh That couldn't be from the dawn's breeze. The flickering from sunlight through leaves Began to look increasingly mischievous As it made its dances around the trees. Then the flowers looked too luminous Even for their springtime shades and hue... Then in a great FLASH they all appeared!! The fairies around me danced and flew From every color to every tier. "Come dance with us, you little elf," They were beckoning for me to play. I wondered how they could call myself, An elf? That's no name for them to say. Then in the brooklet, I saw my ears. No longer was I old, with children. Why...I was a child! With no more fears. And points to my ears that hadn't been. "Come dance with us," they called me again. So I skipped around trees with lights. I splashed in the brooklet without end And ran by the fairies without plights. The flowers nodded as I flew by. The petals of red followed my feet Bare of shoes as bird wings that fly. The grass, dirt, and bark smelled oh so sweet. "Come dance with us, little elf, come home." So I danced to the meadow's music In the brook so cold, and sun so warm. In the fairy land where they have no sick, No hurt, no helpless, and no dieing. I danced all day in happy dreams Of roses and carelessly pondering. My heart could burst with joy, it seems, And that is the fairy way of things. So if there's laughter and flickering lights, You sit and wait 'til the fairies sing And of their land you might see a sight. But if you by chance accept a dance And become a little elf yourself You'll forever be caught in a wonderful trance Never ending in nature's wealth. |
