Mr. Roberson’s 8th- Grade Reading Welcome, students! Welcome to 8th Grade! I will introduce you to 8th grade and to our classroom. If you have any questions during my presentation, please raise your hand and wait to be called on. All About Me My background I grew up Los Angeles, California (Inglewood, West L.A., South Central, Compton 60’s and 70’s). Part 1: I attended Angeles Mesa Elementary, Audubon Jr. High, Crenshaw High Class of ‘71, and L.A. City College (dropped out of college, ’73). Transformation ’86 (from low to high self- esteem) U.S. Army 1986-94 Part 2: I attended Riverside Community College, California State University San Bernardino, National University. My experience I’ve been teaching for 9 years. I have also taught third through twelfth grades, but middle school is my favorite. Degrees A.S. Early Childhood Studies B.A. Human Development M.S. Classroom Community Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. Our class rules are: Be respectful and responsible. Be organized and follow directions. Be on time. Be prepared. Homework I will assign a daily reading assignment about 30 minutes of homework every night. This will qualify you for a weekly prize drawing. Your homework packet is due on Friday, or at the end of the week. Your parents/care provider will be notified of your weekly progress. If you have problems contact me at: 678-852-0815. Tardiness School starts at 9:05 A.M. If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class. If you are tardy four times, the school will contact your parents. Field Trips Reading for enjoyment? We will take a walking field trip to Barnes and Nobles Book store to purchase books as part of our reading units.
