I hated going to the dentist. It always hurt! There was no hope that tomorrows visit was going to be any better. By the time I ate dinner I was so nervous I barely tasted the steak, potatoes and fresh green beans I had fixed. The evening wore on, I tried to watch tv and I tried to read a book but I just could not relax. Finally I gave into the craving that I had been trying to ignore all evening. I went to the kitchen and fixed a bubblegum flavored double dip ice cream cone. I took my treat out to the deck and enjoyed every last morsel of cone and dribble of ice cream. That night I tossed and turned in bed, in my dreams I had a vague sense of danger. Suddenly I saw myself standing at the end of a long hallway . I could see something flying down the hallway, as the large object got closer I could see that it was a dentists chair and I was strapped into the chair with a seatbelt. The scary part was that there was a power drill chasing the chair and gaining on it. The whir of the drill bit changed to a voice as it flew through the air on its way by me. The voice promised pain. I sat up in bed, I was breathing hard and my heart was pounding in my chest. I got up and called the dentists office and left a message on the machine stating that I would not be in for my appointment. |
