Walking around,
Lost to the world,
His hopeless gaze
Follows my stride,
As I walk down the road,
Holding out his hand,
I walk away,
Not looking into his eyes,
I look ahead and think,
What good would it do,
He’d probably just go out to drink,
I walk into the coffee shop,
And talk a friend,
She says he stays all night,
In the corner,
Holding out his hand,
I buy a drink and start to leave,
I think twice before buying a second,
I’m being selfish I know,
I walk out into the snow
And hand him his cup,
He stares at me with that hopeless gaze,
And then he smiles,
And took a drink,
I can’t forget that smile,
A brief flash of hope,
The first he’d felt in years,
I Smile as I leave,
Thinking to myself,
The next time I walk down this street,
I wont have to think twice.
