My Guardian Angel

You were the biggest surprise
When I opened my eyes
To see you standing there

You were loving and gave kisses
You were mine, not my brother's or my sis's
And you were my only care

You would greet me in the morning
Anything went wrong, you were my warning
You were my teddy bear

I truly felt you understood
When I was in a bad mood
And you were always there

To comfort and kiss my tears away
I knew you were loyal and would never betray
But now for you I say a prayer

You were my most prized possession
More than a pet, but my obsession
You were unique and very rare

Twelve years went by so fast
And it was such a blast
But the pain I cannot bear

You were my best friend
Always there til the end
It just wasn't fair

I remember watching the vet
Perform that lethal inject
And a hole in my heart did tear

I witnessed you slowly leave
And it was hard for me to believe
That you were no longer going to be there

To be my guardian and protector
Your love was like nectar
So sweet and everywhere

You were always happy to see me
And your spirit so open and free
No other pet will ever compare

To your undying companionship
And our unique relationship
But with God you now share

A new and happy vitality
You now live with immortality
Living in comfort and without a care

So for now we are apart
And when I no longer have a beat left in my heart
I know you'll be waiting for me up there
