An exercise for my Fiction Writing class involving points of view.
Brandy was nervous, she couldn’t help it, this was the first time she had ever decided to do something like this.  She had never been the kind of kid to go against her parents orders, but when her parents had sat her down to say they were going out of town for a private get away this weekend she couldn’t resist the opportunity.  All the plans were in order.  She knew who was supplying the food, the alcohol, and the music.  As far as she could tell her parents weren’t suspecting a thing.  Brandy had been especially careful about what she said over the phone or when friends came over so that she wouldn’t give away any clues that she might be up to something.  If all worked as planned this party was going to be big.
Lila, Brandy’s middle aged mother, was secretly dreading this weekend away with her husband.  She had not wanted to leave her home, her daughter, or town at all, but her husband had insisted that it “would be good for them” to spend some time alone.  Get to know each other again.  Rekindle that old spark.  Lila knew that old spark was long gone.  She was hoping to spoil this weekend with the news that she was filing for divorce.  There was someone else who could make her happier than Jonathan had ever had.  She had been seeing him on the side for a while now during all those late night “business meetings.”  That had been such bull, but Jonathan had fallen for it hook, line, and sinker.  She couldn’t wait to drop the big D-bomb on the man who she had been married to for twenty five years than race back home to crash the party her daughter thought she knew nothing about.
Lila’s husband Jonathan was really looking forward to this weekend away.  He knew his wife hadn’t wanted to go at first, but now she really seemed to be getting into the planning.  However, there was one small detail Jonathan had left out when speaking with Lila about their trip itinerary and that was the surprise private dinner complete with live music he had arranged for just the two of them.  He had been making sure that this trip would go off without a hitch for weeks.  He wanted everything to be perfect.  He wanted this to be something Lila and him could look back on in later years as a really great time in their lives.  A time when they had really reconnected.  He was sure that Brandy would be fine.  Although Lila was suspicious and had said she believed their daughter was up to something Jonathan trusted his only child.  Besides Brandy had never given them any trouble in the past she was a good kid.  A quiet bookworm who spent a lot of time in her room at her computer.  There was nothing to worry about he had reassured Lila, the weekend would be amazing.
