I wrote it for my Lang Arts class last year but ended up really liking the result...
Deep in the forest of a land not long gone,
Laid two hearts that pounded on the ground.
Beating so restlessly that they frightened everyone,
Thumping all day until the sun was not around.

Laying in a narrow enclosure between three rigid rocks,
The hearts began to come alive just after dusk.
Slowly they changed from red to rust,
And gradually they transformed until they resembled us.

As two distinct figures rose from the dirt covered floor,
None other than Romeo and Juliet were reborn.
As pallid, cadaverous creatures they began to walk once more.
Legendary among all, especially the lovelorn.

Hand in hand, they trekked through the abyss,
Clearly their former lives they never missed.
With a deep love for each other, they trudged in to the darkness.
Falling on one another’s lips, they cast a spell and took a risk.

From their pockets they each pulled a pill,
Dawn was soon approaching as Night had its fill.
Simultaneously swallowing the pills, Death was at their will.
Quickly etiolating, they were once more the hearts on the hill.
