Beauty and the Dark

Beauty and dark things go hand in hand I realize. Beautiful stories like Hansel and Gretel are all the more beautiful for the dark woods and the cannibal witch. They are both horrible, but beautiful in their own way. The story wouldn't be half so lovely without them. I write horror because I find it beautiful, terrible, tragic but lovely all the same. The macabre, is there anything more stunning? Haunting, horrible, sad and gloomy. Beauty. An old asylum, a haunted house, the ghost of a demented child, a disturbed lunatic, in horror such things are so lovely they terrify me.
